The Green Scapular, also known as the Badge of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, is a Catholic devotional sacramental approved by Pope Pius IX in 1870.
The Green Scapular is associated particularly with devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and is used to seek Our Lady’s maternal intercession and protection, especially for the grace of conversion and a happy death.
Unlike other scapulars, the Green Scapular does not require formal investiture. It may be worn or carried by the person, or placed among their belongings, while the prayer printed upon it is said with faith:
“Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”
