Miracles

So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” (John 4:48)

"For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation is possible." (St. Bernadette of Lourdes)

Miracles are God’s way of amazing people so as to prove to them that His actions or the actions of one of His many servants are authentic and worthy of belief. Jesus was never a showman and often worked His miracles quietly and without publicity. In fact, He often requested that those who received a miracle to say nothing to their family, friends or community. As we know, this request was often ignored. But Jesus used His miracles to help people to understand that He was the Messiah, promised by God to the Jewish people in the scriptures they read every day.

The Catholic Church has long understood the importance of miracles in authenticating the message of God. Indeed, whenever a person is put forward for sainthood, the church has very strict rules regarding the number of miracles that must be received through the saint’s intercession and the Church will then subject these reported miracles to a rigorous medical and scientific examination. In fact, the church is extremely cautious of pronouncing any event as supernatural as the two thousand year history of the church has built up an unparalleled experience in discerning these supernatural matters. If a miraculous event does finally reach the stage where the Vatican states that a miraculous event is authentic and worthy of belief, it is almost a miracle in itself as so many get miracles and supernatural events get rejected for not reaching their strict criteria for approval.

It is for this reason, that the approval by the Vatican of the Devotion to Divine Mercy and its acknowledgement of the miracles which were reported to have occurred through the intercession of St. Faustina are so noteworthy. In this section of the website entitled “Miracles”, we will present to you some of the most amazing miracles which have occurred as a result of the intercession of St. Faustina or Jesus. In many cases, the person involved was not even praying for a miracle and didn’t even really believe that such a thing was possible. They were all extremely ill and had lost hope of any healing in their life. Some had even lost their faith in a loving God. But as their story will show, we must always keep our hope in God alive! Even though we are only documenting the approved miracles of the Vatican in relation to the Devotion to Divine Mercy, from our experience, hundreds of thousands of personal miracles happen every year to those devoted to Divine Mercy. They are personal miracles, only comprehensible to those who receive these blessings from God, but the importance of these miracles to the lives of those blessed by God’s grace is incalculable.

Even if you have never received a miracle from God, the fact that you have an awareness and devotion to Divine Mercy is probably the greatest gift God gives anyone. For you did not find this devotion by ‘accident’. God has willed that you be brought under the protection of His mercy and be granted all the gifts which He offers us through this devotion like the Feast of Mercy, the Chaplet, Novena and the wisdom of St. Faustina contained in her Diary. We hope that you enjoy the story of the miracles contained in this section of the website and we hope that they will help strengthen your faith and devotion to Divine Mercy. You can be assured that all these miracles are fully authentic and we hope they inspire you to engage at a deeper level with the One who is calling you to His incomprehensible love and mercy.
